FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
What
Is Included With A Sand Creek Post & Beam Barn Kit?
Each basic barn kit includes all of the materials required to create a weather-tight
structure on your foundation: foundation sill plates; full-dimension
Eastern red cedar sills; post and beam barn frame; Ponderosa pine premium
siding; roof sheathing; trim, soffit and fascia; exterior door and
windows; gable vents; hardware; and fasteners, including our full ¼
steel plate joinery; . Of course, each barn kit may have other features
and components included, depending on style and options.
What
Materials Are Used?
We are proud that Sand Creek Post & Beam barn kits are generally
cut from Ponderosa pine. Other specialty woods such as oak, ash, cottonwood
and maple are available. All wood is rough cut and full dimension (1
inch = 1 inch) for an authentic, rustic look.
What
Kind Of Foundation Is Required?
Our post and beam barn kits start with Eastern red cedar sills (an upgrade from green pressure-treated
sills) designed to set on a concrete foundation. We provide complete
foundation plans for your contractor to work from. Because it is a post
and beam frame, a pier foundation, concrete slab or block foundation
may be chosen.
Will
I Need A Building Permit?
Projects of this type may require approval from your local building
and zoning authorities depending on your location. You or your builder
will need to contact local authorities to determine what is required.
All Sand Creek Post & Beam barn plans (including foundation plans) are
fully detailed to facilitate your permit and approval process. If required,
a professional engineers stamp is available for a nominal fee.
Will
A Sand Creek Post & Beam Building Kit Meet Local Building Codes?
All Sand Creek Post & Beam barn kits meet or exceed applicable National Building Code standards.
Our barn kits are designed for a 40 pound per square foot ground snow load,
and wind speeds of 90 miles per hour. If local building codes exceed
the design loads, we can make any necessary structural changes for a
nominal fee.
Do
You Do Any Custom Designs?
We offer a wide variety of Great Plains-style post and beam barn kits from a catalog
of standard models and sizes. Our numerous options include lean-tos,
several window treatments, and a variety of doors including a facing
package for electric overhead doors. Post and beam barn construction allows
for a great variety of floor plans as well as placement of lean-tos,
windows and doors. However, for an additional fee, we can do a custom
design if desired.
Can
I Manage Construction Of One Of Your Building Kits With Limited Carpentry
Skills?
Our barn kits are designed for assembly by an experienced carpenter;
however, we have included with the kit detailed plans and step-by-step
construction guide for those who prefer to do it themselves. It is important
to be familiar with and have access to equipment to unload, move and
lift the post and beam barn kit materials as well as appropriate power tools, and to have
some experience working with wood if you choose to do it yourself.
Can
You Recommend A Contractor In My Area?
We have developed a network of highly skilled builders who specialize
in post and beam barn kit and outbuilding construction. If you dont have a qualified
contractor, we would be happy to recommend one in your area.
When considering
a prospective contractor for your project it is not critical that he
